Weekend Inspiration #23

This weekend inspiration is a unique art-driven product launch of the new Glade line of scented candles. The Originators and Chief Creative Designer Deb Roth were one of several teams brought in to interpret the scents of Glade's new line of candles. For the “Hawaiian Breeze” scent, Roth designed a large-scale fabric tension structure that allows guests to walk inside a conch shell, a multi-sensory  experience.

With only eight days to turn this vision into reality, it was clear that working with 3D computer modeling couldn't yield the sculptural qualities this organic form demanded. “The design and installation was completely analog," Roth said, "Straight from my brain to my hand to scissors, a needle and thread. We had no choice; we had to make this on-site.”

Drawing from her more than 30 years experience working with a broad range of sculptural materials, Roth quickly went from a paper and wire maquette (small scale model) to hand-drawings to a preliminary spiral form in two days, completing the installation with time to spare.
